Companion Rescue

-Whether you are a seasoned backcountry adventurer, a side country slayer, or looking to get out on your first adventure, reviewing and testing your skills of the essential equipment is pivotal to returning from an escape to the mountains.

-Travel in the backcountry begins with a firm foundation in the theory and use of essential rescue/retrieval equipment.  In the Prival Building Blocks course you begin with an overview of terrain mitigation and learn how use an avalanche forecast and weather observations to formulate backcountry travel plans. You will work hands on with our instructors and trained professional athletes, learning the theory and techniques for properly using an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel.  In a controlled environment, you will also simulate single and multiple burial scenarios, learning how to efficiently and effectively locate and extract a buried victim.

-This course is two and a half hours long and standing outside for the duration is required. Demo beacons, probes, and shovels are available upon request.

-Remember in the event of an avalanche CPR and or first aid is almost always issued. Continuing your education into proper basic life support and advanced avalanche safety skills is a must.  We look forward to helping you begin your quest for knowledge towards the backcountry avalanche chain of survival.

Perfect course to take before getting into any backcountry skiing/boarding. Tony knows his stuff and will teach you the basics of safe backcountry travel (reading the avalanche forecast, looking at obvious terrain hazards, beacon work/shovel practice etc.) Definitely the most value I have ever gotten out of 50 bucks.

Great course! This was almost a Know Before You Go classroom style learning opportunity mixed with field beacon training. Great approach to understanding risks, mitigating them and practicing for burial situations. I would highly recommend.

Great review for the start of the season. Even as an experienced backcountry traveler, it would good to get the equipment out and get tips for avalanche rescue. It was a good environment with small class sizes allowing for good discussion and questions. I definitely recommend.

Wow, what a fun and educational class! It was so well organized and prepared for – they have thought of everything to make the course efficient and informative. I can’t believe how much I learned in such a short amount of time. And it was awesome to have a ladies only class! I will recommend this course to anyone that wants to get in the backcountry. It was great for beginners and seasoned skiers.

What a great course to take as the snow starts falling! This was a great review for the season. I learned some new tricks and tips for both prevention and rescue. The class size was perfect and the instructors were very knowledgeable! We had some fun in the snow practicing beacon drills and getting comfortable with equipment. I would definitely recommend this course to any backcountry travelers.
